    Heroic Solo Leader Syndrome

    When our business was small and growing, we could successfully care for all areas: marketing, innovations, bookkeeping, and supervision. As we added employees, we constantly tried to keep all the plates spinning. When we spread ourselves thinner, more and more often we began making inadequate, even disastrous, decisions in important areas of the business.

    In fear of the consequences of the company collapsing, we took on the role of Heroic Solo Leader. We adopted the philosophy that it is mandatory we be in control of every decision, large or small. Superman never got tired, but by using this leadership model, we will become exhausted and the company’s quality will dip drastically. Learning to be a macro-manager is difficult, but this managerial role can be learned. Start today by choosing and hiring a talented person we can trust to take one area off our shoulders. Repeating this process will permit us to fulfill our rightful position of Chief Executive Officer.
