The common rule of thumb to success is do whatever it takes and spend all the hours that are needed. If we cheat others, that’s the price. If we neglect our family, don’t feel bad. The main idea is to get the next position up or gain another extra thousand dollars on this deal.
The Bible gives us another formula. The rule is to give not get. Getting is fueled by greed. This virtue is never satisfied like a fire in the Yellowstone National Forest.
The starting point is to give away as many smiles as you can. Next dispense cheerfulness like it was as free as air.
Another feeling to pass along is courtesy and genuine respect for others. Following that, we should be liberal with our encouragement and sound advice when others request it. Sometimes, we may go as far as to give actual assistance to their project.
The last one, which is seldom requested, is financial assistance. Be willing to help financially as the Lord lays it on our conscience.
“Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonuses and blessings. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity” (Luke 6:38 Msg).
