    Enjoy Today

From a personal experience, I would like to reveal a fact to you early in your life. For six years of evening classes at the state university, I struggled to comprehend, retain, and regurgitate all the professors wanted me to learn. I had the hopes of experiencing a super exhilaration as I marched grandly across the stage with my colorful Master’s Hood flapping in the backdraft. In anticipation, I bragged to the family about the completion of my goal.

On that awaited day, the guests finally arrived. The family, my cheering section, was in the audience. The line shortened. Oh, I am next! They announced my name over the PA system to the vast array of people. I took my first step. No feelings of joy came upon me. I shook the dean’s hand and with the left hand accepted the coveted sheepskin. What a letdown! I joined the rest of the class in front of our appointed folding chair.

The same feeling is experienced when we finally, at long last, reach the millionth dollar or that prized position. Nothing special! Let us consider Steve Job’s wisdom. “The journey to your goal is the reward, not reaching it.” [Steve Jobs: His Own Words and Wisdom]

Let’s begin now to enjoy going to work, having a problem to solve, learning to cope with that negative person, getting one step closer to solving a crisis, or at the end of the day feeling satisfied we made positive progress toward our goal.
