Our Priorities
Sunday, April 17, 2011 When we get the dire news that we have cancer, we immediately review how we have lived our lives. It was awful new. The evil cancer is at stage four. We truly attempt to align our lives with God. We gain clarity as to what is truly important instead of impressing our neighbor or pampering our wishes. For the first time, we realize we have lived a pretty selfish life. How close are we to what God wants?
Another situation that clears our mind is when we get a pink slip from the office. It seems the bills speedily pile up as high as our head. We feel so bad that we are no longer able to support our family. How awful it feels to be letting our family down! A similar feeling washes over us when we realize we have slipped spiritually. What a terrible feeling invades our mind to know we let God down. Are we aligning with our Lord’s plan for us?
On the occasions when we have tons of time on our hands, we assess the present condition of our lives. It might be when it takes three hours to fall asleep or the three days we endure at the hospital lying flat on our back. It becomes extremely clear that we have relegated our family way down our priority list. The kids are half-grown and we don’t really know them. We now realize that we have also ignored our relationship with God. What do we need to change to align with God’s priorities?
Society notices the direction our life is headed. One might be proceeding up the social ladder or the corporate hierarchy. This plainly displays our ambition and goal to the public. Let’s let the whole world also see our priorities in regards to God and spiritual things.
